Meet Ben
A Weslaco ISD parent
"For your children. For my children. For every child."
Ben is a husband, a son and a father of three. He taught in Weslaco ISD classrooms before he became an attorney, and Weslaco is home.
His three kids go to Weslaco ISD schools, so he sees the district from both sides of the classroom. Like any parent, he wants them safe and happy, with every chance to succeed.
That's why he serves. For Ben, the school board is personal.
Four years of steady work
The results
In 2023 the board adopted Lone Star Governance: clear goals for students, with progress checked in public. Students, teachers and staff did the work, and it shows.
State accountability score
Up every year since 2023
Weslaco High, Weslaco East and South Palm Gardens all earned an A.
Open books
When concerns came up about district finances, Ben moved to bring in independent auditors and outside counsel. The report is public. Taxpayers paid for it, so they get to read it.
What's next
The next four years
- Keep the focus on student achievement, and on safety for every student and employee.
- A steady hand through the superintendent transition.
- Keep backing our teachers, and make that support stronger.
- Careful, open budget decisions.
